It is essential to clean your Resmed CPAP machine, mask, tubes and humidifier tubs as clean as possible. A regular cleaning schedule will ensure that your CPAP equipment is safe, free of dangerous pathogens and working properly.
Following a simple step-by-step method to clean your Resmed CPAP machine and mask:
It’s easy to put off tasks like cleaning your CPAP equipment, but you do so at your peril! Bacteria and mould can build up quickly -especialy in the humidifier tub.
The following method from Resmed takes only a few minutes.
The ease and speed of this process, when followed step by step as recommended by Resmed, will help you establish and stick to a daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
You will need luke warm water, a mild hand soap (not dish washing liquid or Sunlight soap as this is too harsh and may leave streaks or damage the equipment) and a fresh, clean hand-towel.
Daily cleaning of Resmed mask, humidifier tub and CPAP air tubing:
Step 1: Unplug the CPAP Machine!
Step 2: Disconnect the tubing and the mask
Step 3: Disassemble the mask into its components – frame, headgear and mask cushion
Step 4: Clean them with warm soapy water.
Step 5: When all traces of oils and residue are gone, rinse them thoroughly with clean water.
(NB: if you use water out the tap to rinse, use the cold tap, not the hot tap as it may have bacteria in it from the pipes)
Step 6: Lay them on the towel to air-dry out of direct sunlight.
Follow the above process for the tubing and the humidifier tubs. Ensure that there are no marks or discolouration on them when dry, as this may indicate that they are not properly clean.
Weekly cleaning of humidifier tub:
The humidifier tub should be given an extra thorough clean on a weekly basis.
STEP 1: Again – start with unplugging the CPAP machine.
STEP 2: Soak the tub for 15 – 20 minutes in a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water
STEP 3: Clean and dry the tub as per the daily schedule above.
It’s really that easy to keep your Resmed CPAP equipment clean, hygienic and safe to use!
